I mean, apart from watching in a kind of horror to see which event has the smallest crowds?!
It’s been a real shame that the friendly games haven’t managed to inspire and engage with the local population, but hardly a surprise given the reported cynical attitude of many of the 0rganisers.
A change in venue from the usual suspects of UK, Canada, Australia and NZ was long overdue, but it looks like moving to India has been made perhaps 20 years too early. The lack of a cricket tournament probably hasn’t helped when the key has been to ignite public interest in a country that doesn’t seem to be all that interested in any other sport (forgive me if that’s ignorant of huge grass-roots participation in some other sports, but I’m just not aware of them).
Of course, what never changes about the Commonwealth Games is Australian dominance of the medal table. They are absolutely flying again!
I just hope there’s some positive legacy from the infrastructure and investment, rather than a bunch of white-elephant venues that will never see a full crowd.
