The World’s fastest man is looking to add further greatness to his legacy by hinting he could be competing in the 400 metres and long jump at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
Rumours have been rife that the 100m and 200m world record holder could soon quit athletics and be a no show at the Rio Games. However, in a promotional interview with Sky News last week, Bolt put an end to the speculation by stating “Yes definitely I will be there (in Rio), as long as I’m fit and I’m ready. It’ll be a little bit harder but I’m looking forward to it.” Quizzed on the possibility of him following greats such as Carl Lewis into new events, the chilled out Jamaican said “It’s just about making different goals, there’s a lot of things I can do in the sport. My coach wants me to do 400 metres, I want to try long jump. I could always try to aim for the records again, so there’s different things but after the season we’ll decide what we want to do and work on that next season.”
Not content with his track exploits, the 6 time gold medallist is also trying to convince Sir Alex Ferguson to give him a run out for Manchester United. He was guest of honour at United’s 3-2 home win against Fulham on Saturday and spent time after the match selling his talents to the legendary Manager over a glass of red wine and plate of pies. It is also reported that Bolt, apparently an excellent cricketer as a youngster, is flirting with the idea of playing Twenty20 Big Bash cricket in the Australian domestic league. He certainly wouldn’t get run out!
It is obvious the greatest sprinter of all-time is up for new challenges, no matter what the challenges may be. Team Konkura would love to have the big man competing in our sport and fitness community. So Usain, the gauntlet is down – time to prove you really are the greatest!
