Marquez knocks-out Pacquiao in Vegas
Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez finally defeated Manny Pacquiao in their fourth fight. Marquez had been unlucky in the three preceding fights, drawing once and losing twice on points despite many ringside observers believing on each occasion he had deserved the victory. This time he took it out of the judges hands with a devastating knock-out in the sixth round. Marquez knocked the Filipino to the canvas in the third round, but Pacquiao got back up and sent Marquez crashing down. Pacquaio began to up the tempo and looked in control until Marquez landed a huge punch. Pacquaio was out cold before he touched the floor and stayed down for a number of minutes afterwards. Talk is already beginning over a fifth bout between the pair.
Van Persie ends City’s unbeaten record
Robin Van Persie scored a dramatic injury time winner as Manchester United beat their City rivals 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium and ended their two year home unbeaten record in the process. In-form Wayne Rooney got United off to a flying start with two instinctive goals before half-time. City are becoming known as a second half team and goals from Yaya Toure and Zabaletta pulled them level. With twenty minutes remaining City continued to pile on the pressure and looked the likeliest winners. However, with only minutes of injury time remaining, City needlessly gave away a free-kick 25 yards from goal. Up stepped Robin Van Persie to curl the ball around the wall and into the corner of Joe Hart’s net. City boss Roberto Mancini was fuming with his goalkeeper Hart and French play-maker Samri Nasri, who moved out of the way of the ball as it headed towards goal. United are now six points clear of City at the top of the Premiership, and they finally erased the memory of last years 6-1 drubbing.
